Surryano Ham takes home top honors

Edwards Virginia Smokehouse's Surryano ham has been named a 2020 winner in the Good Food Awards Charcuterie category. It is the fifth time Surry, Va.-based Edwards has been recognized in the award program's 10-year history.

The Good Food Awards are bestowed annually by the Good Food Foundation, which seeks to recognize and connect sometimes overlooked players in the food system "who are driving toward tasty, authentic and responsible food in order to humanize and reform our American food culture."

Perdue Chicken Plus heads to foodservice

Perdue Foodservice is introducing Perdue Chicken Plus, nuggets and patties blended with vegetables, for its customers, on the heels of the product’s successful rollout at retail.

Perdue Chicken Plus blends veggies such as cauliflower and chickpeas with no-antibiotics-ever white meat chicken that has been fed a 100% vegetarian diet. Each serving of this next generation of fully cooked, frozen chicken products is complete with one-quarter cup (half a serving) of vegetables.


 

Sunny Fresh Egg Bake Bites with meats

Sunny Fresh is introducing Egg Bake Bites, a high-protein, gluten-free handheld breakfast option that is totally grab-and-go. Over the last four years, the grab-and-go segment has grown 33%, according to data compiled by Datassential.


 

Steakhouse offers bowls at lunchtime

Black Angus Steakhouse is adding Steakhouse Bowls to its lunch menu offerings at all locations nationwide. The Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based chain is menuing the bowls with sirloin, grilled chicken, or shrimp or salmon, on a bed of greends with balsamic dressing and vegetables and rice. Diners have a choice of dressing. The bowls are priced between $12.95 and $14.95.


 

CPK heads to Canada

California Pizza Kitchen has partnered with Alberta restaurateur Samira Shariff  to open Canada’s first locations of the fast-casual eatery, the company said in a news release. The first restaurant will be in Edmonton, with four more locations planned in the province over an eight-year period. CPK also is looking for sites in Vancouver, B.C. and Toronto, Ont.


 

Niman Ranch introduces sliced ham packaging

Niman Ranch plans to roll out a 6-ounce convenience package of sliced deli ham in Black Forest, Applewood Smoked and Honey flavors. Expected to hit retailers’ shelves in April, the new deli ham joins the company’s other pre-sliced deli items, which include Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roast Beef and a charcuterie line.

“For years, Niman Ranch fans have been asking for our delicious ham to come pre-sliced, but it took time to perfect the recipe and flavors and also to grow our farmer network to ensure we have enough pork to meet demand,” said Drew Calvert, vice president of innovation at Niman Ranch in a release about the new offering.


 

Case Farms’ new safety milestone

Case Farms’ Goldsboro processing facility has reached the 2 million-hour mark without experiencing a recordable lost-time accident (LTA). It is the second time in three years that the Goldsboro plant has reached the 2 million-hour benchmark; in 2018, that plant reached the 3 million-hour mark without an LTA.
