Meatingplace has chosen Oakwood, Ohio-based Cooper Farms as this year’s recipient of its industry leadership award in recognition of the turkey processor's numerous innovations.
The award, formerly known as the Industry Innovator Award, is presented annually as "The Jewell" in honor of poultry industry pioneer Jesse Jewell.
The 74-year-old, family-owned company remains at the forefront of everything from animal welfare to next-generation processing and alternative energy. The company has been the first in the industry in several areas. Among those innovations are on-truck controlled atmosphere stunning, a new method of fabricating a turkey wing and a custom blast cell to quickly cool deli meats.
Cooper Farms was an early adopter of product lotting and traceability using unique serialized barcode tracking.
“Cooper Farms represents everything that the Jewell award stands for. The company is a constant innovator whose products, processes and overall approach to business have raised the standard of excellence for the entire poultry industry,” said Bill McDowell, editorial director of Meatingplace and its sister publications. “We look forward to the innovations that Cooper Farms will bring to the industry in the coming years.”
