Karen Christensen is an associate professor and extension specialist at the University of Arkansas Center of Excellence for Poultry Science with extensive poultry industry experience.

Bio for Karen Christensen

Karen Christensen is an associate professor and extension specialist at the University of Arkansas Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. As part of her research appointment, she is responsible for the four-house commercial broiler farm owned by the University.  

Prior to joining the faculty at the University, she was the director of technical services for a major broiler company in Arkansas, responsible for the welfare program, research program and feed and health laboratories.  

During many years in the commercial broiler industry, she worked in all areas of production, including litter management, ventilation, broiler management, brooding and live haul.

She has co-authored a number of research papers in the areas of broiler production and broiler welfare and has conducted applied research on new broiler products and equipment. She has a PhD in poultry physiology from Mississippi State University.

Christensen is a board member the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO) and director of the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Ag Applied Broiler Research Farm.
